EUGENE, Ore. – Two separate stabbing incidents over the weekend in Eugene resulted in multiple arrests, with authorities responding quickly to both situations.
The first incident occurred on March 7 just after 11 a.m. when a woman reported that she had been stabbed by a family member on Willamette Street. The victim was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police launched an investigation, and it took over 12 hours to locate the suspect, later identified as Kelly Jean Gallinger. Gallinger, 43, was arrested and booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
A second stabbing was reported just two days later, on March 9, when a 21-year-old man was found injured on High Street. The victim was rushed to the hospital, and law enforcement quickly began searching for the suspect. Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing east on 16th Avenue. A sheriff’s office brought in a police dog unit to assist in the search, but no suspects were immediately located.
In an unexpected turn, Michael Schlimmer, 56, called police from outside the Lane County Jail, stating he wanted to turn himself in. Schlimmer was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree assault. He was booked into the Lane County Jail shortly after.
Both incidents have raised concerns about safety in the area, and authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover more details. As of now, no further information about the motive behind either attack has been released.
