Astoria, OR – The Astoria Fire Department recognized two of its members for reaching service milestones, highlighting their contributions both inside the department and across the community.
Firefighter Tim Ryan marked two years as a volunteer with the department. In addition to his work with the fire department, Ryan is a member of Public Works, where he brings a different perspective and knowledge base that the department said is consistently appreciated.
Engineer Nolan Mathews reached five years with the Astoria Fire Department. During his time with AFD, Mathews has contributed in a variety of ways, including maintaining the department’s communications equipment and playing the bagpipes in the fire station bay.
The department described both Ryan and Mathews as hardworking and valuable members of the community and congratulated them on their respective anniversaries.
“Thank you to Tim and Nolan for their contributions, you are such valuable members of our community!” the department said in its recognition post.
The anniversaries highlight the different roles members of a fire department can play beyond responding to emergency calls. Ryan’s experience with Public Works provides additional knowledge that can be useful within the department, while Mathews has taken on responsibilities involving both technical equipment and department traditions.
The Astoria Fire Department used the announcement to publicly thank both members for their commitment and continued service, celebrating Ryan’s two-year volunteer milestone and Mathews’ five years with AFD.
