SWEET HOME, Ore. — Authorities in Linn County have launched an extensive manhunt for an armed suspect, Tyler Lanz, who is believed to be in the area just outside Sweet Home. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) confirmed the search Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports of a pursuit involving Lanz earlier in the day.

Around 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement began assisting the Sweet Home Police Department (SHPD) in a chase involving Lanz, who was wanted on felony warrants related to second-degree assault. During the pursuit, Lanz reportedly fled on foot after abandoning his vehicle near Upper Calapooia Drive and Springer Road, triggering a search in the rural area.

LCSO deputies and SHPD officers are currently combing the region in an effort to locate the suspect. Authorities have warned that Lanz is considered dangerous and is believed to be armed with a firearm. As of the latest update, the suspect has not been located, and it is unclear if he has left the area.

In response to the ongoing situation, law enforcement officials are urging the public to avoid the area. An emergency alert has been issued to nearby residents, advising them to stay inside and remain vigilant.

LCSO has emphasized that Lanz should not be approached by the public. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately by dialing 911.

The search is ongoing, and authorities are urging those in the area to stay clear of the law enforcement operation as they work to ensure public safety.
