Astoria, Ore. – Authorities have launched a homicide investigation after a body was discovered near Johnson Mill Pond, located east of Coquille, on the morning of March 12.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received a report of a deceased individual at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies responded to the scene, which is situated between Coquille and Myrtle Point, and began processing the area for evidence. The body was found near the former mill pond, a location known to be a quiet and secluded area.
At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been released, as officials are working to notify next of kin. Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that the investigation is being treated as a homicide, though further details regarding the cause of death have not yet been disclosed.
CCSO is actively seeking information from the public. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Johnson Mill Pond between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on March 12 to come forward with any information that could assist in the case.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are in the process of gathering all relevant details,” a CCSO spokesperson said. “We are grateful for any information the community can provide that may help us in solving this case.”
