EUGENE, Ore. – A former employee of the Eugene School District 4J was arrested on Tuesday, January 14, on charges related to the possession of child pornography.
Andrew John Hruby, 20, was taken into custody following a search warrant executed at his home south of Eugene, initiated by the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Hruby faces 20 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse, all linked to the possession of child pornography. Authorities confirmed that there is no evidence to suggest that any local victims were involved in the case, and that the charges relate solely to possession, not production, of the material.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing.
According to officials from Eugene School District 4J, Hruby worked as a substitute educational assistant at the district’s Arts and Technology Academy.
He was employed for a total of 24 days across the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years—17 days last year and 7 days this school year. District officials noted that Hruby’s role did not involve regular, direct contact with students. In an email sent to parents, Superintendent Colt Gill confirmed Hruby’s brief employment with the district and assured the community that the district was fully cooperating with law enforcement.
The district emphasized that Hruby’s work did not include any interaction with students in a capacity that would have raised concerns related to the charges.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to combat internet crimes involving children.
