Hillsboro, Ore. — A teacher at Banks High School has been arrested following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student. Wymon Smith, a 66-year-old math teacher, was placed on administrative leave by the Banks School District on January 7, 2025, after the district was made aware of the allegations. The district promptly contacted the Oregon Child Abuse Hotline, in accordance with state law.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit, which investigates child abuse cases, launched an investigation into Smith’s conduct. Authorities discovered that Smith had engaged in sexually inappropriate conversations with multiple students and had sexual contact with at least one student while on school property.
Smith was arrested on January 14, 2025, and now faces charges of sexual abuse in the second degree and luring a minor. Under Oregon law, any sexual contact between a teacher or coach and a student is classified as a felony.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has expressed concern that there may be additional victims and is urging anyone with information about Smith’s behavior to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as more details emerge.
The Banks School District has been cooperating with law enforcement throughout the investigation. In compliance with Oregon House Bill 3273, Smith’s booking photo has been released to help identify any potential additional victims.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the sheriff’s office.
