Astoria, OR – The Astoria Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect following an armed robbery at a Safeway store late on the night of July 4.
According to police, dispatchers received a call at approximately 11:11 p.m. from a Safeway employee reporting they had been robbed.
Investigators said the employee was approached by a white male wearing a red-and-black striped pullover who was armed with a handgun. The suspect allegedly took a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot behind the store.
Police released surveillance images of the suspect but acknowledged the photos are of limited quality. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the individual or who was in the area around the time of the robbery to come forward with information.
Investigators also said they believe a woman with curly red hair, wearing a yellow-and-black flannel shirt and driving a silver midsize four-door sedan, may have information that could assist the investigation.
