Eugene Police Seek Help Identifying Suspect in Vandalism at City Hall

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department is reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying an individual responsible for a series of vandalism incidents at Eugene City Hall that have resulted in thousands of dollars in damages to city property.

According to authorities, the first act of vandalism occurred overnight between April 27 and April 28, when an unknown suspect threw rocks through the front doors of the City Hall building. The damage caused by the rocks shattered the glass and damaged the door frame, with repair costs estimated at $4,000.

Later that week, on April 30, between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., the suspect struck again. This time, a chunk of concrete was thrown through the same glass doors, causing an additional $2,000 in damages. In response to these incidents, Eugene police deployed a camera trailer outside City Hall to deter further vandalism and capture any potential suspects on camera.

The following weekend, on May 4, surveillance footage revealed a man approaching the camera trailer between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. The footage shows the suspect holding a rock while appearing to give a brief speech before throwing the rock through one of the front windows. This latest incident caused another $4,000 in damage.

In total, the acts of vandalism have resulted in over $10,000 in damages to the public building. The Eugene Police Department has asked anyone who may recognize the suspect or have information regarding the incidents to contact Detective Shawn Trotter at STrotter@Eugene-or.gov.

Authorities are urging the community to come forward to help bring the individual responsible to justice, as they continue to investigate the case.
