JUNCTION CITY, Ore. – A car crash at a gas station in Junction City led to a fire that caused significant damage to a fuel pump and the vehicle involved. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 31, when firefighters responded to a report of a crash at a gas station located on Ivy Street.
According to Junction City Fire and Rescue, firefighters arrived on the scene around 4 p.m. to find a fire involving both the vehicle and the gas pump. Fortunately, crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. Fire officials reported that the gas station’s safety systems activated as intended, preventing further damage and ensuring the fire did not spread beyond the pump and the car.
No injuries were reported from the incident. The occupants of the vehicle were able to safely exit through the passenger side after the crash, and no firefighters or bystanders were harmed during the emergency response. The driver later informed authorities that a mechanical failure in the car led to the crash, but the exact cause of the malfunction has not been determined.
The incident caused an estimated $20,000 in damage. Due to the extent of the damage, the gas station will remain closed for an undetermined period of time while repairs are made.
