Astoria, OR – A 74-year-old man from Florence, Oregon, died in a fatal crash on Highway 126 in Lane County on Wednesday, January 8, 2024. According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), the incident occurred around 3:05 p.m. near milepost 8.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, identified as Victor Joseph Cianci, was driving a Ferrari GTB westbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ferrari, which was reportedly speeding, crossed the center line of the road and struck a guardrail. After hitting the guardrail, the car overturned and came to rest in a nearby pond.
OSP officers responded to the scene and declared Cianci dead upon arrival. While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities have suggested that speed may have been a contributing factor to the crash.
This incident marks a tragic event on Highway 126, and the Oregon State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
