Portland, OR – Two drivers have been indicted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Portland on September 27, leaving a 37-year-old woman dead. A Multnomah County grand jury handed down the indictments last week, with Julio C. Salazar-Arias, 39, and Sergio Cruz, 26, turning themselves in to authorities on Thursday.

The incident took place on the night of Friday, September 27, when Cameron Anne Barton was struck while walking along East Burnside at Northeast 113th Avenue. According to the Portland Police Bureau, both Salazar-Arias and Cruz fled the scene following the crash, which led to Barton’s death.

Salazar-Arias and Cruz have been charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver, a crime related to leaving the scene of an accident that results in injury or death. Cruz also faces an additional charge of initiating a false report, although details of this charge have not been disclosed.

Following their indictments, both men were arrested and taken into custody at the Multnomah County Jail. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.

The tragic incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, with local officials reiterating the importance of responsible driving and ensuring that all drivers comply with their legal obligations following accidents.
