EUGENE, Ore. — A man driving under the influence early Sunday morning crashed into a home at the intersection of Cal Young Road and Willagillespie Road, causing significant damage but fortunately leaving the home’s occupants unharmed, according to the Eugene Police Department (EPD).
The crash occurred around 4:26 a.m., when the driver of a truck lost control and collided with the house. The impact was severe, with the vehicle slamming into one of the home’s bedrooms, completely destroying the wall of the room. The homeowner, a woman in her 70s, was not inside the room at the time of the crash. Police confirmed that all residents were able to escape the house without injury.
The truck’s impact was particularly jarring, as it ended up on top of the owner’s bed. One of the home’s support posts pierced through the windshield of the truck and continued toward the headrest of the passenger seat. The force of the collision was so intense that it caused significant structural damage to the home.
The passenger inside the truck, a 26-year-old woman, sustained injuries in the crash. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and the driver is expected to face charges related to the crash. The extent of the passenger’s injuries remains unclear at this time.
This accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the potential for life-threatening consequences not only for the driver but for those nearby.
