Astoria, OR – A man was killed early Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Tigard, and the driver of a pickup truck involved in the collision was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Highway 99 West near Southwest Canterbury Lane. Officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after the wreck, according to Tigard police spokesperson Kelsey Anderson.
Investigators determined that the driver of the pickup truck, 44-year-old Jason Burgess of Tigard, was traveling with his son as a passenger when their vehicle collided with a sedan. The driver of the sedan, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The father and son in the pickup truck declined medical treatment, Anderson said.
Burgess was arrested and is facing charges including second-degree manslaughter, DUII (Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants), and recklessly endangering, police said. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
