EUGENE, Ore. – Firefighters swiftly contained a fire that broke out at a business on River Road Monday night, sparking an evacuation and drawing a significant response from local emergency services.
At approximately 5:47 p.m. on February 10, the Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to reports of a fire at an insurance office located at 937 River Road. Callers alerted authorities to the presence of flames and broken windows, prompting concerns about the safety of those inside the building. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered signs that someone had attempted to combat the fire using portable fire extinguishers after breaking the windows.
The responding crews were able to reach the scene within five minutes of receiving the initial emergency calls. Upon arrival, they encountered a large fire burning in a structure housing multiple businesses. Despite the challenges, ESF personnel launched an aggressive attack and worked swiftly to suppress the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent properties.
Firefighters were also able to rescue a cat from the burning building, though the animal’s condition was not immediately disclosed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine the source and circumstances that led to the blaze.
