CANYONVILLE, Ore. – A Merlin man faces charges of child neglect after allegedly leaving his young child alone in a hotel room at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort on multiple occasions during a visit in late February.
Court records indicate that 41-year-old Garland Brittain IV, who was staying at the resort with his child, left the under-10-year-old child alone in their hotel room on February 25. The incidents occurred at 1:30 a.m., 6:30 a.m., and again at noon, while Brittain reportedly went to the casino.
Authorities allege that Brittain’s actions put the child at risk, leaving the child unsupervised for extended periods that could have endangered their health or welfare.
According to court documents, police made contact with Brittain at approximately 12:15 p.m. on the same day, and he was subsequently arrested on three charges of child neglect.
Brittain is set to be formally arraigned in Douglas County Circuit Court on March 26, where he will face the charges.
The case raises concerns about child safety and the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure the well-being of their children in potentially hazardous situations.
