EUGENE, Ore. — Jasmine Wright, a woman previously accused of attempting to burn down her ex-boyfriend’s parents’ home last summer, now faces additional criminal charges related to theft and identity theft. The new accusations come after a witness to the arson investigation reported that Wright had stolen his mother’s debit card and used it to make several fraudulent purchases.
The victim, who had a falling-out with Wright in the months following the fire, discovered that $1,300 had been withdrawn from his mother’s account. According to police, the stolen money was spent on tickets to four shows at Eugene’s Hult Center, including performances of Dear Evan Hansen, Chicago, Hadestown, and Champions of Magic. Investigators traced the IP address used to make the online ticket purchases back to Wright’s address.
Further investigation revealed that Wright had been wearing an ankle monitor at the time due to her release on bail in the arson case. The monitor showed she was at the Hult Center for one of the shows, and it also tracked her attempted attendance at a second show, which was canceled after the theft was reported.
Wright has now been formally charged with first-degree theft and identity theft in connection with the stolen debit card. The two new charges will be added to her existing case related to the arson, where she is accused of setting fire to a home in Eugene’s Crescent Meadows neighborhood on the night of July 6, 2024.
The fire, which was reported around 2 a.m., reportedly began on the front porch of the home after it had been doused with a flammable liquid. Neighbors speculated on social media that the incident had been captured by a security camera, though the footage has not been publicly released. Thankfully, no one was injured in the blaze.
Wright’s trial for both the theft and the arson is scheduled for July 31, 2025. As she faces these serious charges, the case remains under close scrutiny by both law enforcement and the community.
