EUGENE, Ore. — A break-in at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Monday night has left the congregation and local authorities seeking answers. The Eugene Police Department (EPD) is calling on the community for assistance in identifying a person of interest connected to the crime.

According to the EPD, the church, located at 1385 Oakway Road, suffered significant damage when an unknown individual broke into the building. Several music instruments, as well as religious items, were destroyed, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage. In addition to the destruction of property, the suspect left feces in the worship area, further desecrating the sacred space.

The incident has left church leaders and members in shock. “It’s not just about the material losses, but the emotional toll this takes on our community,” said a church representative. “This is a place where people come for peace, and to see it violated like this is deeply upsetting.”

The Eugene Police Department is actively investigating the break-in and has released a call for any information that might assist in identifying the person responsible. At this time, the EPD has not disclosed whether there are any surveillance images or additional details about the suspect’s appearance, but they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The church, a longstanding part of the Eugene community, has seen an outpouring of support from local residents since news of the vandalism broke. Many have expressed their condolences and frustration over the incident, with some offering to help with repairs or fundraising efforts.

As the investigation continues, the Eugene Police Department encourages anyone with tips to contact their non-emergency line.
