LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A Portland man was killed early Tuesday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 58, east of Oakridge, according to the Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a white GMC Yukon, driven by 45-year-old David William Dickey, collided head-on with a gray Volvo semi-truck near milepost 38. Authorities say Dickey was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered into the oncoming lane and struck the semi-truck.
Dickey was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 40-year-old Alymbek Baikeev of Forest Hills, New York, was not injured.
Emergency personnel from the Oakridge Fire Department responded to the crash, along with crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the wreckage.
No citations have been issued at this time, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
