Coos Bay Gym Owner Accused of Sexually Abusing Teen Girls, Has History of Similar Offenses

COOS BAY, Ore. — A Coos Bay gym owner with a history of sexual misconduct has been accused of sexually abusing multiple teenage girls, according to court records recently made public.

Henry Delaney III, 44, of Bandon, is the head trainer and founder of Northwest Fitness in Coos Bay. He was arrested earlier this year on a charge of second-degree sexual abuse following allegations from a 16-year-old girl who told authorities she endured months of inappropriate and exploitative behavior while training at his gym.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed in early June, the teen reported repeated incidents where Delaney allegedly groped her under the pretense of giving massages or physical therapy. She also described being forced to cuddle with him, sometimes for extended periods, and enduring lengthy, sexually charged conversations she tried to avoid.

The affidavit states other girls have come forward with similar allegations. One victim said Delaney would lay on top of her while “stretching her out,” a tactic he reportedly used repeatedly during training sessions.

Despite the serious nature of the accusations, Delaney has since been released from custody. His case is currently pending. Investigators say Delaney initially told detectives he was not surprised to be under investigation and even remarked that he “just wanted to go to jail.” He later declined to make any further statements.

Court documents also reveal Delaney is a registered sex offender with a troubling history that stretches back more than a decade. In 2009, he was convicted in Washington for sexually abusing a female student at a gym he operated in Seattle. In a separate case in Medford, he allegedly kept a scrapbook filled with Polaroid pictures of a young girl, whom he described as someone he wanted to “remember.”

The documents also shed light on a family history of misconduct. Delaney’s father, Henry Delaney Jr., was forced to resign from an Oregon teaching position in the 1990s after reportedly sexually abusing an eighth-grade student.
