EUGENE, Ore. – According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into the crimes began in 2023 after the Department of Human Services (DHS) referred a report of sexual abuse involving two children under the age of 12. The children disclosed to DHS staff that Roscoe Rick Redden, 68, had repeatedly sexually abused them. Following these disclosures, detectives launched a thorough investigation, ultimately leading to Redden’s arrest on July 5, 2023.

Redden faced charges including two counts of first-degree sodomy, four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. After a trial, a jury convicted him in mid-April 2024. On April 21, 2024, Redden was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 56 years and three months.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Department of Human Services, Kids FIRST, and the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for their critical roles in the investigation and prosecution of the case.

Authorities emphasized the importance of collaboration between agencies in handling such sensitive cases and ensuring that justice is served for victims of abuse. With Redden’s sentence, officials hope to bring a sense of closure and safety to the victims and their families.

This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to protect vulnerable children and to pursue justice in cases of sexual abuse. The work of law enforcement, child advocacy organizations, and legal teams remains crucial in preventing such crimes and holding offenders accountable.
