EUGENE, Ore. – According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into the crimes began in 2023 after the Department of Human Services (DHS) referred a report of sexual abuse involving two children under the age of 12. The children disclosed to DHS staff that Roscoe Rick Redden, 68, had repeatedly sexually abused them. Following these disclosures, detectives launched a thorough investigation, ultimately leading to Redden’s arrest on July 5, 2023.
Redden faced charges including two counts of first-degree sodomy, four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. After a trial, a jury convicted him in mid-April 2024. On April 21, 2024, Redden was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 56 years and three months.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Department of Human Services, Kids FIRST, and the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for their critical roles in the investigation and prosecution of the case.
