EUGENE, Ore. – Authorities in Eugene are asking the public for assistance after a cat was found shot and abandoned in a carrier earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on April 5, has prompted an investigation by the Eugene Police Department, who are now seeking any tips that could lead to the identification of the person responsible.
According to the police, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of Snowberry Road. Several callers reported hearing multiple shots fired from a steep hillside. Witnesses also described seeing a man running down the hill and fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
When officers arrived at the location, they discovered a distressing scene: a cat inside a carrier, with obvious signs of having been shot. The cat, severely injured, was transported to an emergency veterinary clinic, but despite the efforts to save her, she was ultimately euthanized due to the extent of her injuries.
The Eugene Police Department has expressed concern over the apparent cruelty of the act and is asking the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the case. Authorities are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or seen the individual running from the scene.
