EUGENE, Ore. – A 41-year-old Eugene man was arrested on Thursday morning in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries, following a traffic stop by local authorities. The arrest took place at approximately 10:15 a.m. on March 6, in the 900 block of Franklin Boulevard.

According to the Eugene Police Department (EPD), an officer observed a white pickup truck with U-Haul labels that matched the description of a vehicle linked to several recent vehicle break-ins. The truck had been flagged by a community service officer earlier in an email sent to police staff. EPD officials confirmed that the vehicle had been connected to incidents involving vehicle burglaries in the area, one of which was reported on March 4.

In that case, the victim, who was visiting a relative at a hospice facility, found that their car’s window had been shattered, and the door showed signs of being pried open. Authorities noted that this incident was just one of several linked to the vehicle.

Upon stopping the truck, the officer discovered that the driver, later identified as Cody Lee Lewis, was driving with a suspended license. Further investigation during the traffic stop revealed that Lewis was allegedly connected to two separate vehicle burglaries and an unreported incident in Springfield. In addition to the burglary charges, Lewis was found in possession of several illegal items, including a firearm, methamphetamine, and burglary tools.

As a result, Lewis was arrested and transported to Lane County Jail. He now faces a variety of charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, driving while suspended, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, possession of burglary tools, and second-degree criminal mischief.

Lewis remains in custody, according to jail records. The investigation into the burglary incidents continues, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

This arrest highlights the importance of community involvement and effective communication between citizens and law enforcement in tackling local crime. The quick response by Eugene police officers, aided by a vigilant community service officer, led to a successful arrest and the confiscation of critical evidence.
