Lakeside, Ore. – A 57-year-old man was arrested on March 3 after allegedly firing a gun during an argument at a residence in Lakeside, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Authorities responded to multiple 911 calls just before 7:30 p.m. reporting a disturbance involving gunshots near the intersection of Park Avenue and 7th Street. Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim, who identified the suspect as David Smith III, a neighbor. The victim claimed Smith fired a round near their head during a heated argument, prompting the emergency calls.
Investigators combed the area and located a spent 9mm bullet casing, which matched the ammunition found in Smith’s handgun. Deputies also discovered a spent bullet lodged in the ground near the site of the dispute. Following their investigation, authorities arrested Smith without incident.
Smith was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he remains in custody. He faces several charges, including second-degree attempted assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Court records show Smith is scheduled for a hearing on March 12.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Local residents are urged to contact authorities if they have any additional information related to the case.
