The City of Astoria is excited to extend an invitation to join them in celebrating National Public Works Week!

The National Weather Service forecasts a mixture of rain, snow and freezing temperatures likely to affect Astoria and surrounding areas over the next few days

Astoria, OR – According to the city officials, this annual event provides an excellent opportunity to recognize the vital contributions of our Public Works Operations team and their tireless efforts in maintaining and improving our city’s infrastructure.

Our Public Works Operations department oversees an extensive network, including:

– A sprawling 3,700-acre watershed
– A robust 12-mile transmission water line
– A network spanning 80 miles of waterline
– Maintenance of 4,100 water meters
– Management of 72 miles of sewage collection pipe
– Maintenance of 1,546 sewer manholes
– Upkeep of 55 miles of streets
– Maintenance of 9 bridge structures
– Oversight of 8 miles of shoreline
– Management of 5 miles of rail line
– Maintenance of 460 fire hydrants
– Operation and maintenance of 10 pump/lift stations
– Management of a wastewater treatment facility
– Responsibilities including road maintenance and fleet maintenance for nearly 400 pieces of City-owned equipment and vehicles

Additionally, our Administration team has been instrumental in securing over $24 million in grant funding for current projects, which are being expertly designed and managed by our Engineering department.

As we celebrate National Public Works Week, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude to the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to ensure the safety, functionality, and sustainability of our city’s infrastructure. Their efforts truly make Astoria a better place to live, work, and play.
