Klamath County, Ore. — Two people lost their lives following a tragic two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 early Monday morning. According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), the crash occurred near milepost 284 at approximately 5:42 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a northbound Nissan Frontier, identified as 30-year-old Derek Ryan Ford, crossed the center line of the road for reasons that remain unknown. The vehicle collided head-on with a southbound car, driven by 48-year-old Amy Wilson.
Both Ford and Wilson were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders and law enforcement worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the crash, which caused significant traffic disruption. Highway 97 was closed for about three hours while authorities conducted their investigation.
