SILETZ, Ore. — A 63-year-old woman from Siletz, Nickie Young, was arrested on Wednesday, March 26, after authorities determined she had falsely reported finding two abandoned dogs along the Siletz Highway.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Young contacted authorities claiming she had discovered the dogs near milepost 30 on the highway. However, an investigation by Animal Services deputies revealed that Young was, in fact, the owner of the dogs and had abandoned them intentionally.
In response to the situation, LCSO deputies took protective custody of the animals and transferred them to an out-of-county partner facility, where they will be placed up for adoption.
Young is now facing two misdemeanor charges. She has been charged with initiating a false report, a Class A misdemeanor, and abandonment of animals, a Class B misdemeanor.
The case highlights the ongoing issue of animal abandonment and the importance of responsible pet ownership. Authorities are reminding the public that abandoning animals is not only inhumane but also a criminal offense under Oregon law.
The investigation is ongoing, and the dogs are currently in safe hands, awaiting their new homes.
