Portland Man Arrested in Attempted Luring of Minor

Portland, OR –  A 35-year-old man was arrested on December 17, after allegedly attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl at a local park with the intent of exploiting her sexually, according to authorities. Samuel Digiovanni, of Northwest Portland, was taken into custody following the execution of both an arrest warrant and a search warrant in connection with the case.
Digiovanni faces multiple charges, including luring a minor, first-degree online sexual corruption, third-degree attempted rape, third-degree attempted sodomy, and attempted use of a child in the display of sexually explicit conduct. The investigation began after law enforcement received information about Digiovanni’s online communications with the young girl, which reportedly began on a social media platform before moving to text messaging. Authorities allege that Digiovanni had been conversing with the girl for several weeks, during which time he attempted to arrange a meeting at a local park.
Police say Digiovanni’s ultimate goal was to take the girl to his residence. Portland Police Bureau officials say the arrest was part of a larger effort to crack down on online predators targeting vulnerable minors. “This case serves as a reminder of the dangers that exist in online spaces, where predators often exploit digital platforms to groom and manipulate young people,” said Portland Police Detective Angela Reyes in a statement. Authorities have not disclosed whether Digiovanni and the girl had met in person prior to the attempted meeting, but they did confirm that no physical contact occurred during the investigation. As of the latest update, Digiovanni remains in custody and is expected to face a court hearing in the coming days. The charges against him carry serious legal consequences, including the potential for lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
In the wake of the arrest, local officials have reiterated the importance of online safety, urging parents and guardians to have open discussions with children about the risks associated with digital communication. Experts say that online predators often use social media and messaging apps to target vulnerable individuals, and emphasize the need for vigilance in monitoring internet use.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further charges as they continue to examine Digiovanni’s online activity.
