MYRTLE POINT, Ore. – A 49-year-old Myrtle Point man is facing a series of charges, including menacing and unlawful use of a weapon, after an incident early Monday morning in which he allegedly pointed a gun at another man, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 1:55 a.m. on April 28, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence on Weekly Creek Road. Upon arrival, they found that Steven Paul, a convicted felon, had allegedly threatened a man and aimed a firearm at him during a confrontation. Authorities noted that, as a felon, Paul is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

As deputies continued their investigation, Paul arrived at the scene driving an SUV, despite having a suspended driver’s license due to a prior felony conviction. Deputies searched the vehicle and located the firearm believed to have been used in the alleged threat.

Paul was arrested at the scene and taken to the Coos County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony-level driving while suspended. Jail records indicate that Paul remains in custody as of the afternoon of April 28.

Court records reveal a lengthy criminal history for Paul, who was previously convicted of offenses such as speed racing in 1995. Over the years, he has accumulated additional convictions for harassment, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and trespassing.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, and additional details may emerge as the case progresses.
