EUGENE, Ore. — A 48-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday evening after a violent altercation at the Eugene Airport. The incident unfolded around 5:50 p.m. on March 18, when TSA employees alerted an airport officer to a disturbance involving a passenger who appeared intoxicated and had acted aggressively during a routine security screening.

According to the Eugene Police Department (EPD), the man, later identified as Jason Lee Carriere, had been asked to remove his wallet during the security check. In response, Carriere allegedly threw the wallet on the ground and exhibited signs of intoxication. TSA personnel subsequently informed an airport officer, who stationed himself near the gate to monitor the situation.

As the boarding process continued, Carriere was stopped by airline employees, who denied him access to his flight. The situation quickly escalated when Carriere became agitated, demanding to be allowed to board the plane. He insisted that the flight should not depart until he was permitted to board, despite being informed by the officer that he was not allowed to fly and needed to leave the airport.

When Carriere refused to comply with the officer’s orders to leave, he reportedly became more aggressive, moving toward the officer in a threatening manner. In response, the officer called for backup, and a struggle ensued as Carriere attempted to grab the officer’s microphone. Airline staff assisted the officer in restraining Carriere, who was ultimately handcuffed.

As backup arrived, the situation did not de-escalate. Carriere refused to stand up and was placed in a wheelchair to be taken into custody. Police said he continued to struggle, kicking his legs and attempting to escape as he was escorted through the airport. To prevent further outbursts, officers placed Carriere in a flexible restraint device and a spit hood.

Carriere was transported to the Lane County Jail, where he was booked on charges of disorderly conduct, second-degree trespass, and resisting arrest. No injuries were reported during the altercation.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by airport security personnel and law enforcement when dealing with unruly passengers. Authorities are reminding travelers to comply with airport regulations and cooperate with staff to ensure the safety and efficiency of the boarding process.

This case remains under investigation, and Carriere is expected to appear in court at a later date.
