Astoria, OR — A hit-and-run crash late Friday night resulted in a power outage and multiple road closures in Hillsboro, according to the Hillsboro Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:18 p.m. when a black SUV struck a power pole at the intersection of SE Oak Street and SE 5th Avenue. The crash caused the pole to lean precariously over the roadway, disrupting power to the surrounding area.

Hillsboro police quickly responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities later identified the driver as 41-year-old Eduardo Aguilera-Lazaro, who was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and hit-and-run. According to police, Aguilera-Lazaro’s breath sample indicated a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.13%, significantly above the legal limit.

As crews worked to repair the damage and ensure safety, several nearby roads were closed for several hours. Affected roads included SW Oak Street from SE 2nd Avenue to SE 6th Avenue, SW Baseline Street from SE 2nd Avenue to SE 6th Avenue, SE Washington Street from SE 2nd Avenue to SE 6th Avenue, and the intersection of S 1st Avenue and SE Walnut Street. Authorities advised that these roads would remain closed until noon on Saturday.

No injuries were reported from the crash, but the damage to the power pole caused a temporary disruption to the area’s electrical service.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
