BROWNSVILLE, Ore. – A house fire in the Linn County area on Thursday morning was quickly brought under control by multiple fire agencies, following an incident believed to have been caused by a malfunctioning bathroom fan.
At approximately 10:46 a.m. on April 10, emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Sunset View Drive, located roughly five miles north of Brownsville. According to the Brownsville Rural Fire District, firefighters were already in the area due to a prior response to another nearby emergency. This proximity enabled crews to arrive at the scene just two minutes after the alarm was dispatched.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story home with visible smoke emanating from the eaves surrounding the entire perimeter. The fire district reported that crews immediately began to contain the blaze, waiting for additional resources to arrive. To further combat the flames, firefighters ventilated the roof of the home to improve access and extinguish the fire more efficiently.
During their search of the property, crews were able to rescue a pet rabbit from the house. The occupant of the home, along with their three dogs, was assisted by neighbors in evacuating safely. One person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation but was later released after receiving care.
Fire officials have indicated that the cause of the fire is believed to be linked to the bathroom fan, though further investigation is ongoing.
The swift action of the fire crews, coupled with the assistance from the community, likely prevented further damage and injuries. Authorities are reminding homeowners to regularly inspect and maintain electrical appliances, such as bathroom fans, to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
