PLEASANT HILL, Ore. – Firefighters were able to swiftly contain and extinguish a fire that broke out in the kitchen of a local grocery store Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. at the Dari Market in Pleasant Hill.
According to Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire, the fire started in a fryer area of the store’s kitchen. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered that the flames were contained to the fryer area, but the building’s fire suppression system had not fully controlled the fire. Firefighters quickly used handheld fire extinguishers to bring the blaze under control before venting smoke and checking for any signs of fire spread.
Officials praised the quick thinking and fast actions of the Dari Market employees, who were able to limit the damage and prevent the fire from escalating. The fire department reported that while some repairs will be necessary in the kitchen, the store itself will remain open and operational without significant disruption.
Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire took the opportunity to remind the public about fire safety, especially when using a handheld fire extinguisher. The department emphasized the importance of following the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep side to side.
The swift and effective response from both the store employees and fire crews helped prevent what could have been a more destructive event.
