SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A fire broke out in the attached garage of a home in east Springfield early Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) crews. The occupants of the house safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.
According to ESF officials and dispatch logs, the fire was reported just after 8 a.m. on March 9 in the 6500 block of E Street. Firefighters responded to the scene within four minutes of the dispatch call, arriving to find an active fire in the garage and heavy smoke inside the residence.
Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the home, noting that the second floor was filled with dark, thick smoke. Fortunately, the fire was mostly contained to the garage, with only minimal extension into the first floor of the home. Despite this, the home sustained extensive smoke damage.
Fire investigators from ESF are currently interviewing witnesses and working to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet released further details on what may have triggered the blaze.
The quick response of the fire crews and the safe evacuation of the home’s occupants were key in preventing what could have been a more serious incident. The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing.
