KELLOGG, Ore. – A head-on collision on Highway 138 early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a 38-year-old Eagle Point man. The Oregon State Police (OSP) reported that the crash occurred around 4:58 a.m. on February 26, near the community of Kellogg.
According to OSP, Carl Gregory Miller was driving an eastbound Ford Escape when, for reasons believed to be related to fatigue, he veered into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with a semi-truck. The force of the impact caused the Ford Escape to burst into flames.
Bystanders, witnessing the accident, rushed to the scene and managed to pull Miller from the burning vehicle before emergency responders arrived. Despite their heroic efforts, Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The driver of the semi-truck, whose identity was not immediately released, was uninjured in the crash.
Troopers have stated that fatigue is believed to have played a significant role in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving while fatigued, and OSP encourages drivers to take necessary precautions to stay alert behind the wheel.
The incident remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police.
