EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a man allegedly followed a child walking home from school last week in the River Road area.

On January 28, a child was reportedly followed by an unknown man while walking home from River Road Elementary School on West Hilliard Road. The man, who was seen walking a dog, trailed the child as they made their way through the neighborhood. In response, the child was able to seek refuge at a nearby neighbor’s home, where the incident was reported.

Sheriff’s deputies described the suspect as a white male, aged between 40 and 55 years old, standing approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 210 pounds. The man was reportedly wearing a blue or gray beanie, a tan jacket, blue jeans, and work boots. Following the encounter, the suspect was seen driving a red Chevrolet Malibu sedan, which was observed passing by the neighbor’s residence.

Although no criminal activity was reported, Lane County Sheriff’s Office officials have expressed concern about the nature of the incident. Deputies have yet to identify the man involved and are seeking assistance from the public to further their investigation.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the individual to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4141, referencing case number 25-0448. Community members are encouraged to come forward to help ensure the safety of children in the area.
