Astoria, OR – The Astoria School District is celebrating the success of its Astoria Middle School advanced orchestra program after students earned top awards at a regional competition.

The district announced that its 7th and 8th-grade Advanced Orchestra, under the direction of Angela Pederson, competed in the Music in the Parks festival held at Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon.

According to the district, the student musicians earned 1st place in their division as well as 1st place overall at the Portland event.

The competition brings together school music programs and professional adjudicators to evaluate student performance and musical development.

Officials said the achievement reflects the students’ dedication, preparation, and continued growth in the performing arts program.
