EUGENE, Ore. – The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred last week in the River Road area, in which a man reportedly followed a child walking home from school. The sheriff’s office is seeking assistance from the public to identify the individual involved.

According to authorities, the incident took place on January 28, when an unknown man, walking a dog, allegedly followed a child from River Road Elementary School on West Hilliard Road. The child, feeling threatened, was able to seek refuge at a nearby neighbor’s home.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged between 40 and 55, standing approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 210 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a blue or gray beanie, a tan jacket, blue jeans, and work boots. Authorities further revealed that the man later drove by the neighbor’s residence in a red Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

While no crime was committed during the encounter, the sheriff’s office has called the situation concerning and continues to investigate. As of now, the individual has not been identified.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4141, referencing case number 25-0448.
