FLORENCE, Ore. – A high-speed chase that spanned over 60 miles through the Oregon countryside ended in Florence on Sunday morning, with law enforcement apprehending one suspect but leaving the driver still at large.
At approximately 10:46 a.m. on April 20, an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper spotted a pickup truck near the town of Cheshire. The truck was allegedly linked to an earlier attempt to steal a trailer that day. Upon recognizing the vehicle, the trooper attempted to pull the truck over. However, the driver refused to stop and sped off, triggering a pursuit that continued for over an hour.
The chase took the truck southbound on Highway 101, with the trooper following closely behind for the long stretch toward Florence. The pursuit ultimately came to a halt when Florence police deployed a spike strip near the intersection of Eighth Street and Highway 101. The strip successfully disabled the vehicle, forcing it to a stop.
After the truck came to a halt, two individuals exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Despite a brief manhunt, police managed to apprehend the passenger, identified as 25-year-old Olallie Stahl-Wellborn. Stahl-Wellborn was arrested on multiple charges, including a parole violation and an outstanding warrant for possession of heroin.
The driver, however, was able to evade capture and remains at large as of the latest reports. Oregon State Police continue to investigate the incident and are asking for any information that may assist in locating the suspect.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the wanted driver. The investigation is ongoing.
