COOS BAY, Ore. – A 44-year-old man was arrested on Monday afternoon after allegedly threatening several people with a BB gun in Coos Bay. Authorities responded quickly after multiple 911 calls reported an armed man walking along Libby Lane, pointing the weapon at individuals.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), dispatchers received several calls starting just before 4 p.m. on March 3, reporting a man walking down the street and pointing a firearm at bystanders. The callers described the suspect, leading deputies to locate Jacob A. Hermann, who matched the description provided.

Upon approaching Hermann, deputies discovered that he was carrying a BB gun, not a real firearm. Despite the gun being a non-lethal replica, witnesses believed it to be real, with several individuals reporting fear for their lives when the suspect allegedly aimed it at them.

Hermann was arrested on the scene and taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of menacing. In addition, authorities placed a detainer on him at the request of his parole officer. Hermann is currently being held at the Coos County Jail.

The quick response from law enforcement helped prevent any potential harm, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Sheriff’s officials continue to remind the public of the dangers posed by weapons, whether real or replica, and the importance of timely reporting to ensure community safety.
