LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – A Beaverton man was arrested Saturday afternoon on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII), reckless driving, and recklessly endangering others after multiple reports of a car speeding on the beach in Lincoln City.
According to the Lincoln City Police Department, officers responded to the D-River area following several calls from witnesses who reported a vehicle racing south along the beach, in an area that is closed to vehicles. Witnesses also said the driver was performing doughnuts, or “spinning cookies,” on the sand, creating a dangerous situation for pedestrians in the vicinity.
When officers arrived, they located the vehicle south of Canyon Drive beach access. Upon spotting law enforcement, the driver allegedly began to drive erratically. A “half-full” bottle of vodka reportedly fell from the open trunk of the vehicle and onto the beach.
The driver, identified as Artem A. Savenko, 27, of Beaverton, eventually stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody. Savenko was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail, where he faces multiple charges including DUII, reckless driving, and recklessly endangering another person.
No injuries were reported, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
