Astoria, OR – A deadly three-vehicle collision late Wednesday night on Interstate 84 in Union County, Oregon, claimed the lives of two drivers and left another injured. According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred near milepost 279, prompting a swift response from local authorities.
The incident began when 60-year-old Robert Fred Kenyon of Nampa, Idaho, pulled over his Mack commercial vehicle and trailer to install chains at a chain-up area due to hazardous road conditions. As Kenyon was stopped on the roadside, a westbound Freightliner, driven by 47-year-old Steven Bradly Botter of Spokane, Washington, veered off the road for reasons that are still under investigation and collided with Kenyon’s stationary vehicle.
Moments later, a second westbound Freightliner, operated by 28-year-old Sing Manvir of Fresno, California, struck both the vehicles involved in the initial crash as they re-entered the roadway.
Both Kenyon and Botter were pronounced dead at the scene. Manvir, who sustained injuries in the crash, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
The collision blocked the westbound lanes of I-84 for several hours, and the interstate remained impacted for approximately 10 hours while authorities conducted their on-scene investigation. The crash created significant traffic disruptions in the area, with motorists advised to find alternate routes during the closure.
Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
