Coos County, OR – A routine traffic stop south of Charleston on Saturday evening resulted in the arrest of one man and a citation for another, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on January 11, a deputy patrolling the area of Seven Devils Road near Hinch Lane observed a Chevy Suburban driving without taillights and failing to maintain its lane. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and a subsequent records check revealed that the driver, identified as 37-year-old Chad D. Peters, had a suspended driver’s license. Peters was cited at the scene for driving while suspended, a misdemeanor, and released.

While conducting the stop, the deputy learned that Peters’ passenger, 35-year-old Jacob S. Potter, was on probation. Further investigation led to the discovery of a glass pipe and a small plastic bag containing a crystalline substance in Potter’s possession. Deputies notified Potter’s probation officer, and after confirmation of the violation, Potter was arrested.

Potter was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he faces charges for violating his probation. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the crystalline substance found in his possession, pending further investigation.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
