Astoria, OR – The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is set to replace several aging and worn-out signs along U.S. Highway 101 in a bid to improve safety and visibility for drivers. The replacement project, which is scheduled to begin next week, will start at the Old Youngs Bay Bridge and progress to the Astoria Bridge before concluding with the New Youngs Bay Bridge.
David House, an ODOT spokesperson, confirmed the timeline for the work, stating that crews are expected to begin the project on Sunday night, weather permitting. The sign replacement is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the highway and ensure it meets the safety needs of the growing traffic along the route.
The total cost of the project, which includes both design and construction, is estimated at $470,000. ODOT officials anticipate the work will be completed sometime in 2025, barring any unexpected delays.
The upgrades are expected to enhance driver awareness and improve navigation through these key areas of Highway 101, where outdated signage has become a safety concern over time. The new signs will be more visible and provide clearer guidance for motorists, contributing to safer travel along this busy stretch of highway.
