EUGENE, Ore. – A 36-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a violent dispute at an apartment complex Tuesday evening that escalated into a physical altercation and a gunshot being fired, though no one was seriously injured.

According to the Eugene Police Department, officers responded to reports of a gunshot fired at an apartment complex located on West 11th Avenue around 8:22 p.m. on April 22. Upon arrival, authorities discovered that the incident began when Michael Allen Gutierrez was told to leave the premises by security staff after allegedly engaging in a heated argument with a woman over property matters.

Police said Gutierrez became confrontational with the security guard, leading to a verbal confrontation. A 41-year-old man, who was in the parking lot at the time, intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation. This quickly escalated into a physical altercation involving Gutierrez, the security guard, and the stranger. During the struggle, a shot was fired, though investigators were unable to determine who discharged the firearm.

Following the altercation, the individuals involved fled the scene. Gutierrez, meanwhile, contacted the woman he had been arguing with earlier, claiming he had been shot, despite no visible injuries. Police later located Gutierrez several blocks from the scene and arrested him without incident.

Gutierrez was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a minor injury, which was likely sustained during the physical fight. He was subsequently booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and telephonic harassment.

The Eugene Police Department deployed several officers, along with drones and K-9 units, in their search for Gutierrez. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the gunshot and the individuals involved in the confrontation.

No further details have been released at this time, and police are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
