Astoria, OR – Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday night on Interstate 5 near milepost 161. According to preliminary reports, a southbound Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, driven by 51-year-old Sargis Sargsyan of Glendale, California, veered off the roadway for reasons that remain unclear at this time.

The Volvo collided with the rear end of a parked Peterbilt commercial motor vehicle and trailer. The impact resulted in Sargsyan’s death at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the Peterbilt vehicle were unharmed.

Authorities have confirmed that the highway remained open during the on-scene investigation, which was led by the Oregon State Police. No further details about the circumstances leading to the crash have been released, as the investigation is ongoing.

At this time, police are working to determine the cause of the crash and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
