CORVALLIS, Ore. — Authorities have arrested a second suspect in connection with a shooting incident that occurred early on May 17 near Highway 99 West and Lakeside Drive in Benton County.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced the arrest of 20-year-old Alexa Montano Corral of Salem on the evening of May 22. This followed the arrest of 20-year-old Julia Dell Yepez, also of Salem, two days earlier. Both women are linked to the same incident.
According to sheriff’s officials, the shooting took place in the early morning hours when a 911 caller reported that a male victim had been shot inside a vehicle by a short Hispanic female with long hair, wearing a long-sleeve black shirt. The victim suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and is currently recovering.
Investigators believe both suspects fled the area immediately after the shooting. Authorities also suspect that Corral and Yepez used the dating app ‘Chispa’ to lure the victim with the intent to steal from him. The women are further suspected of engaging in similar criminal activities in a neighboring county.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to the public, particularly users of dating apps, advising caution. Officials recommend always meeting in public places and avoiding isolation until one is certain of the other person’s intentions.
The case remains under investigation as the sheriff’s office continues to gather more information.
