LANE COUNTY, Ore. – A Portland man was killed early Tuesday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 58 just east of Oakridge, according to Oregon State Police.
The fatal collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a white GMC Yukon, driven by 45-year-old David William Dickey, collided head-on with a gray Volvo semi-truck. Authorities said the vehicles crashed under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Dickey was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the semi-truck, 40-year-old Alymbek Baikeev of Forest Hills, New York, was not injured.
The crash resulted in a complete closure of Highway 58 for approximately three hours while law enforcement conducted an on-scene investigation. The Oakridge Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation provided assistance with traffic control and cleanup efforts.
No further details have been released regarding the cause of the collision. Authorities have not indicated whether weather, speed, or impairment were factors.
Oregon State Police continue to investigate the incident.
