EUGENE, Ore. — North Eugene High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure following a reported dispute involving juveniles near the River Road area, Eugene School District 4J officials said.
The district issued a notification to families around noon, assuring that all students and staff were safely inside the school, accounted for, and following established safety protocols.
According to the Eugene Police Department, officers responded at 11:39 a.m. on May 29 to reports of a dispute among a group of juveniles at 2080 River Road. Authorities were informed that one of the juveniles was allegedly armed with a firearm and that gunshots had been fired into the air.
Police made contact with several juveniles during the investigation, but the juvenile believed to be armed had not yet been located as of the latest update.
Officials said the lockdown at North Eugene High School was implemented as a precaution on the recommendation of Eugene police while the investigation continued.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
