EUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene man was arrested Friday on 13 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the First Degree following a year-long investigation by the Eugene Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit (VCU). The arrest was the result of a search warrant executed with the assistance of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force and other law enforcement partners.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) flagged suspicious online activity connected to the 2300 block of Irwin Way in Eugene. According to Eugene Police, the tips indicated that child sexual abuse material was being downloaded at that location.
Over the course of several months, investigators discovered that the suspect had been downloading videos depicting the sexual abuse of young children. Authorities confirmed that the illegal material had been accessed multiple times during the investigation.
The man, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was taken into custody without incident. He now faces multiple felony charges related to the distribution and possession of child exploitation material. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials are working to determine if there are additional victims.
The Eugene Police Department commended the collaborative efforts of the ICAC task force and other law enforcement agencies involved in the case, noting the importance of joint efforts in combating online child exploitation.
“We are committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals who engage in these horrific crimes,” said a spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department. “This case underscores the importance of reporting suspicious activity to authorities in order to protect vulnerable children from harm.”
The Eugene Police Department also urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior related to online child abuse.
