COQUILLE, Ore. — The Coquille Education Association (CEA) and the Coquille School District have reached a new labor agreement, successfully averting a potential teachers’ strike. The deal was ratified by union members, ensuring that students returned to the classroom as scheduled on June 4.
The agreement followed weeks of negotiations focused on increasing support for students and securing critical resources for educators. CEA President Tyler Lienemann praised the determination and solidarity of the district’s educators, stating that the outcome reflects a united effort to stand up for what they believe is right.
“This agreement is the result of educators standing together, putting aside their own fears, and fighting hard for what they know is right,” Lienemann said in a statement.
Throughout the negotiation process, the union emphasized the need for better working conditions, respect for educators, and improved learning environments for students. Lienemann also expressed appreciation for the Coquille community, crediting local support as a key factor in reaching the agreement.
“We know that every town in Oregon, from Portland to Coquille, is better served when educators, students, and parents use their collective voice to advocate for change,” he said.
With the contract in place, all extracurricular activities will continue without disruption. The district and its educators are moving forward with a shared commitment to providing high-quality education for Coquille students.
The terms of the new contract have not yet been publicly released, but both sides described the agreement as a positive step toward long-term stability in the district.
